2014 Blogging Meme

Thanks for the tag @1MvdS,  a teaching friend who I met through Twitter.

Here it goes!

The blogging task includes:

11 Random Facts about me:  (why 11?? I guess because it's random)

1.  I've decided my absolute favourite thing to do is travel

2.  I like airplane food because it means I'm travelling

3.  I started teaching in Auckland when I was 46.... 23 years after I graduated from university in Calgary.

4.  I was born in a small town, Didsbury, in southern Alberta, Canada and now live in Auckland, New Zealand

5.  I've been blogging since 2004 and now have this personal blog, a professional blog and a new class blog.

6.  I love, love, love coffee.

7.  My favourite dates with my hubby are going to a movie complete with popcorn, or having coffee in a local cafe.

8.  I have three daughters all born on the same day... September 11 .... and on the day that 9/11 happened, the twins turned 11 and our third daughter turned 9.  Strange, but true.

9.  I've been to Disneyland 4 times and would happily go 4 more times with or without children along - if I won the lottery I'd visit each Disneyland in the world (which likely won't happen because to win the lottery you have to buy tickets, which I verrrry seldom do)

10. I've floated on the Dead Sea

Here are my tagger's 11 questions for me:

1. What Inspires you?  Doing something that I'm passionate about
2. What are you reading now?  Just finished a historical fiction novel about a German Mennonite immigrant and am ready to start reading a trilogy by the same author that I purchased for my Kindle for $3.00!
3. If you weren't a teacher, what would you do?  Administration job of some sort.
4. If you could change something about the education system, what would it be?  Smaller class sizes and/or teacher aides in all junior classrooms.
5. When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper and mailed it?  Can't remember! Probably last year when I sent an All Blacks calendar and letter to my friend's son who is in prison in the States and when I do it again for 2014 will be the next paper and pen letter I write/mail. (better do that soon!)
6. Android or iPad tablets? Why?  Either.  Whatever works best for the user.  They both have their pros and cons.
7. What do you find hardest to teach your students?  I am finding this hard to answer.  I haven't even taught for 3 full years, so I am still learning so much.  There is so much to teaching - the academics and the life lessons.  I am always learning better ways to pass knowledge and wisdom onto my students and I love that process!
8. What will you be doing differently this year?  I will be leading the eLearning Team for our school, as well as being the Ultranet Co-ordinator and Facebook page manager.  These jobs are going to add significantly to my workload so I need to ensure that I effectively manage my time at work and my time off.
9. If you could be fluent in any other language, what would it be and why did you choose this language?  Afrikaans - because so many of my colleagues and friends speak it and I'd like to be in the inner circle.  haha.
10. What is your favourite way to waste time?  Do you even need to ask.....  facebook.  :D
11. What is your life motto?  I can't pick one thing because everything that I base my life on is in the Bible and different verses have encouraged me at different times in my life, so I'm just going to say, 'the word of God'.  (I'd also have to say that a lot of Dr Seuss quotes are pretty inspirational too! haha)
