Well, it has certainly been awhile since I have last written a blog. I have been faithfully keeping up with my other blog challenge of a photo a day throughout 2010. I think it will make a cool photo diary of this year.
So far I've learned a few things through this challenge.
1. There is always something to take a picture of each day! I think it would be an insult to God to say there is nothing to photograph! All we have to do is look outside our door to see something fascinating He created! Or look around at what we do in a day and realize we have so much to be thankful for and so much to celebrate from the mundane to the extraordinary. Yes I have learned to never say 'there is nothing to take a picture of'. There always is.
2. I have learned discipline. This whole year has been a lesson in discipline for me. The photo a day is only a part of the discipline I have subjected myself to. I have chosen to drastically reduce my sugar intake in 2010, to the point that for the first 6 months I virtually had no sweets, treats, baking, etc. I have felt great from this and have come to realize that I really don't miss it or need it! I have also adopted the discipline of exercise. For the first 6 months I probably averaged 5-6 times a week at the gym. I love it! Now I am working at just going 4 times a week, but it feels like I'm slacking off! I don't want to become a gym junkie, just healthy, so I'm teaching myself that 4 times is okay and will keep me fit and healthy. I have also disciplined myself to finish the correspondence course I started last year. I received my Certificate in Business Management last week and feel very self-satisfied with that achievement. I find correspondence difficult so I was so happy to have been able to complete it and to get great marks! (yay for the middle-aged mom!) The disciplines I have worked on this year are helping me to continue to become the person God has created me to be!
3. I have also learned to appreciate the feedback I get from others regarding my photos. Sometimes they make people laugh, sometimes they make people ponder, sometimes they let people take a moment to appreciate God's creation. I love it when I hear that my daughters' friends follow along and look forward to seeing what picture I've posted for the day. It's kinda fun! :o)
4. But most of all, I've learned that this whole exercise is for me. It is my hobby, my personal challenge, my feeling of satisfaction that I can stick to this commitment. I'm enjoying it and wonder what pictures will show up on my camera over the remainder of the year!
