Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
A Time for Everything
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
Do you ever feel like you'd like to hit the reset button in your life?
Give yourself a fresh start? Get off the merry-go-round of life and just catch your breath for once?
I think we all go through phases in life when we feel this way. Life just gets so busy sometimes. We have so many demands for our time and attention. Right now I'm in a forced 'reset' phase. Surgery will do that to a person! However, I know that there are also ways we can hit the reset button if even for just a few moments.
Kevin loves to tell the story about the founder of the Salvation Army, General Booth's wife. She had 12 children and her way of resetting her life was to sit in the middle of the kitchen floor and pull her apron over her head. When she did this her children knew not to disturb her, she was spending time in prayer, resetting her life.
I like to go for a walk. Get out of the house, away from the distractions and demands of a busy household and just walk and talk to God. Vacations, or weekend getaways are also great times to hit reset and catch our breath and step back from the busyness of life.

I thought I'd bore you all with some things I've learned in the past 9 days since my surgery, and my forced 'reset'.

- one's bum gets very sore sitting in bed for long periods of time!
- it is kinda nice to have people take care of me :o)
- I have given myself permission to rest and let myself be taken care of! (thanks to a good friend for that advice)
- I can't believe what great friends I have been blessed with here who have brought me food, flowers, magazines, stopped by for a visit.... it leaves me speechless really
- I am so thankful for the job God provided me with, and our church, which have resulted in these many wonderful friendships
- my family are wonderful and really are able to do most of the things around the house
- I may never do laundry, cook meals, clean or do dishes ever again! lol
- it's actually kinda enjoyable to watch 4 hours of tv non-stop.... although it does leave one in a bit of a zombie-like state!
- the book I'm reading is veryyyyyy long and I really hope to get it finished soon so that I can get onto other books that I have laying around! (the Potato Factory)
- I am a bit of a procrastinator.... I really need to get my paper written for my course but I just find the assignment so vague that it's hard to get into it! Maybe today I'll finish it.... I really hope so
- I am glad I thought to get that bird feeder and put it outside my bedroom window, as I've really enjoyed watching the birds flutter around it! (and then the evil neighborhood cat chase all the birds away!)
- I have enjoyed catching up with some people on facebook, and writing some emails that I normally wouldn't have taken the time to do
- I am really thankful for the internet, and facebook, and email, and texting, which have kept me connected with loved ones near and far!
- I enjoy sitting in my bed and having different family members come sit beside me for a visit, to read a book, or watch TV.
- I'm looking forward to my parents' visit in a few weeks, as I will be more than ready to get out of the house but not able to go back to work yet, so I'm investigating all the gardens that we can go to for a little stroll and a cup of tea. I can't wait!
- I am so grateful for the prayers of so many people and I fully believe this is the reason why I am healing so well, with minimal pain and no complications. God is good! Thank you for your prayers, my dear friends and family.
- I realize I have way too much time on my hands when I can ramble on this long and that I really should be putting this mental energy into my assignment!! lol
- until tomorrow.....ciao!
