I always enjoy reading good quotes. I used to have a lot of them typed up and pinned to my bulletin board in my office at Edward Jones. They are short, logical phrases that just make sense! They give us insight into who we are. They are little words to live by. Ways to think that influence our daily thoughts and actions.
I've noticed that a lot of people use quotes on facebook for their statuses or in the little sidebar to 'define' who they are. Currently my sidebar says, "Every flyer who ventures across oceans to distant lands is a potential explorer; in his or her breast burns the same fire that urged adventurers of old to set forth in their sailing ships for foreign lands." (Jean Batten 1979 Alone in the Sky) I love that quote. It is printed on a wall in the Auckland International Airport and it was one of the first things I saw after we walked into the lobby of the airport upon arriving here. It struck a chord in my soul about travel and adventure and helps me to understand my desire for both!
Paige has a bulletin board full of quotes that she collects. I love to read what she has up there as it reflects who she is and what she values.
A friend of mine has this quote currently on her facebook: "We won't always know whose lives we touched and made better for our having cared, because actions can sometimes have unforeseen ramifications. What's important is that we do care and we act." It's awesome! It challenges us to think beyond ourselves and to reach out to others. You never know what small word or deed can have a deep impact on another person (both good or bad!). It challenges us to make sure that our words and deeds are honoring to God and that they are used to build each other up, not tear others down. It's definitely something to think about and work at improving daily in our lives.
I've also been reading quite a few quotes from 'Winnie the Pooh' on facebook these days. Who knew that a bear was so wise?! I am collecting them and hope to write a post about their wisdom in the near future! :o)
What quotes do you have tucked away that influence your lives? I'd love to read a favorite or two of yours if you care to share.... thanks!
And I'll leave you with a great quote from a fantastic book! "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!"
