Here are my 5 random questions from my blog buddy in Dubai:
1. You seem to be enjoying your stay in New Zealand. (I remember your family relocated to NZ almost the same time when my family relocated to Dubai). How long do you intend to stay there?
· Indefinitely. We just got our Permanent Residency before Christmas and so we can stay as long as we like! When we left Canada we said that if it wasn’t going well we’d leave after a couple of years, but 2 years in and we have no desire to leave. But the bottom line answer for us is always, ‘Whatever God wants!’ If we believe it’s time for us to go, because God has plans for us somewhere else, then we will leave.
2. Do you have any favorite New Zealand food/dish?
· I love all the ethnic foods available here at such a reasonable price from all over the world, especially Indian! We have come to love pies (meat and a variety of flavors) & fish and chips just like the Kiwis do!
3. What was the hardest part your family encountered when leaving Canada for New Zealand?
· Saying goodbye to everyone!!!!! That was horrible! And not hearing from people back in Canada as much as we’d hoped and as much as they’d ‘promised’.
4. I am always curious of life from the other side of the world and I am sure most people are. Can you share how a typical weekend in New Zealand feels/looks like? Please share your favorite weekend activity?
· Oh dear! When we have company or when we don’t? When we have company we are taking them places and showing them the many amazing sights of New Zealand. When we don’t have company we’re recovering from the company or preparing for the next batch! Haha…. But mostly, like anyone else who works full time, anywhere else in the world, the weekend is full of errands, housework, and hopefully time with the family hanging out or going somewhere fun like the beach or a movie, and of course, Saturday nights is our church service which we love and look forward to each week!
5. What is the one thing that will make you sad if ever you leave New Zealand?
(I can’t possibly pick one thing)
· Many things…. the wonderful people we’ve met and love (from our church, our jobs, the girls’ schools, and our friendships); the fact that we have more company here than we did in Canada, which has been so much fun!; the connection we have with Capernwray Bible School and the people who attend there from back in Canada; the weather (except for the cold houses in winter!); the incredible beauty that astounds us and changes with each corner and turn!; the ocean, the ocean, the ocean…. you can never tire of living near the ocean……and the palm trees and other amazing plants!
