25 Random Things About Me

Something I wrote on my facebook page that I thought I'd put on here for those of you who aren't on my facebook.....

1. Since these '25 things about me' have been going around facebook, I sit in my car on my way to and from work thinking up other things I would write if I did it again, and so I thought I'd just write them and do it again! lol.....it's kinda long so I don't really care if you read it or not.... it was just fun to write.

2. I have written an on line blog for 5 years and strangely enough have no problem with the world wide web knowing what's going on in our lives. I figure if our life experiences can encourage someone else in their walk with Jesus then it's all worth it. Have a read if you like, www.nichol5.blogspot.com

3. I have been greatly encouraged by those people who do email me that the path God has our family on has been an encouragement and challenge to them in their lives.

4. One thing that greatly disturbs me is women, young and old, who wear such low cut tops! What ever happened to modesty! It really bothers me, but I'm never brave enough to say something (except to my own daughters). I know they're proud of their breasts but do the rest of us really have to stare at them too?!

5. Incompetent fast food workers are my biggest pet peeve! Really, how hard is it?!?!

6. I worked at McDonald's during my grade 11 and 12 years and actually really enjoyed it! Even dressed in my lovely brown polyester outfit!

7. I have my Bachelor of Education degree and taught for 2 years, but never really had the passion for it that the rest of my family possesses. Sometimes I feel guilty for that, but other times I just accept that teaching in a classroom is just not what I am called to do.

8. Often when I'm driving alone in my car I have an overwhelming sense of God's presence and peace. I love it!

9. When we moved to NZ it took our whole family quite a few months to adjust to the 'step back' we took in our house. It was a good lesson for all of us.... nice, new, big houses don't make a home, it's the people and memories and laughter that do. Since we've overcome that, we love to have people hang out at our house... the more crowded the better! (and retro 70's is in, so our funky green house is back in style! lol)

10. I have amazing parents. They are incredibly giving and caring people. They aren't thrilled with the fact that we live so far away now, but they have accepted it. They have worked with Victims services as volunteers for 10 years, something that is a true gift.

11. I also have amazing in-laws. God has blessed me with wonderful in-laws! And they are coming to visit soon, which is awesome! We can't wait!

12. While I'm talking about family, my brother and his wife are also most amazing! They led worship in our church in Peachland for 14 years and it was such a blessing! Sometimes I wouldn't be able to sing cuz I would just start crying! (I hope someday they come to NZ for a good, long time!)

13. I wish our family could get to know Kevin's siblings and their families better, but time, distance and phase of life just don't make it so. I accept that, but I don't like it! The times we have spent together are precious. We have one niece and one on the way that we haven't even met.... that makes me sad.....

14. I can hardly sit through a movie at home, but I love to go watch movies in the theatre.

15. I love being outdoors. I love the fresh air. I love seeing the beauty of what God has created.

16. I see things as pictures. Especially being in northern Alberta and driving around all the old farms and seeing the old buildings and machinery.... I just have to stop and take pictures.

17. I am going to do something really radical for my 45th birthday next month. I won't say what it is till I've done it! lol But let's say, that before we moved to NZ, there's no way I would have ever even contemplated it!

18. My favorite job of all time was working in the District of Peachland office in a variety of roles and especially as the Deputy Clerk. It was only temporary and when I didn't get the permanent position (because I had no past experience) I was devastated. Over the years I often thought they'd made a mistake not hiring me.... (and I'd been told that too)

19. I know what it's like to literally be bored to tears. I had a time at my job at Edward Jones Investments in between having a rep in the office during a one year period, when I was the only person in the office with absolutely nothing to do until they found a replacement investment rep. I would actually cry because I was so bored! I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown from boredom! I spoke to the area manager and we came up with a plan that I could work less hours and have one day off a week until they brought in a replacement. He was a very understanding area manager!

20. I know that my greatest gift and ability is organisation and administration. Sometimes I don't like it because it can come across as controlling and/or know it all..... but it's just how God made me. (and He knew to put me with Kevin cuz he needs someone to organize his life and I need someone to 'mess' up mine and help me 'relax'! lol)

21. Since our girls were born I've prayed for them: that they love God with all their hearts, minds and soul; that they respect those in authority over them; that they care for others; that they desire purity; that they take responsibility for their lives, actions and belongings. I have also prayed for their future boyfriends and husbands since they were wee little, so I know that the young men God brings into their lives are exactly who He has intended for them at that time, and we trust Him with their relationships.

22. I really enjoy getting to know the girls’ friends and boyfriends. They have made (and hopefully will continue to make) good choices in who they invest their lives in and who they let influence their lives.

23. I would like to ‘do something else’ as a career, but I just don’t know what. I toy with the idea of going back to school or opening a business, but I just never really settle on one thing. My greatest dream would be to have a guest home that I could host people from all over the world who need a place to get away and rest and not charge them anything. That is my big ask of God…..

24. I love checking my email. Haha…. I’m probably actually a bit addicted to it, if the truth be told. Oh well, I guess I just love ‘communication’ and always love to hear from family and friends. Although having said that, it was very hard the first year here to not hear too much from our friends back in Canada. I had to give that over to God and just accept what was. Facebook has filled that need in my life to keep in touch with people, even though the people I keep in touch with aren’t the ones I would have expected to, which is awesome too, cuz I’ve been blessed with ‘new’ and ‘renewed’ friends on facebook.

25. This has become quite long and probably a tad boring for you, but that’s okay, you don’t need to read it all! Lol. I like to write and so most of my blogging/writing is my hobby and I just put it out there for anyone who may want to read it and hopefully they will know how much God loves them and what kinds of amazing adventures God can take them on when their lives are surrendered to Him! And if you did get to the end of this, I’d love to hear from you….. even just a ‘hi’…… it’s always nice to know who your audience is! Lol

God Bless!!!

I am really wondering what your're going to do on your birthday! You're not going to shave your head, ala-Britney Spears do you? :-)

Hi Cheryl, I'm one of your audience.
