Wednesday in Devonport

Devonport is the area directly across the water from Auckland's downtown area. It is a beautiful little village that looked very British. Bruce drove us there, practicing his right side car/left side road skills. He passed. :-)

We saw the most amazing fig tree there. Here is a picture of Kevin hugging it! The tree actually drops long branches that anchor the tree like roots. You can sort of see them along the edges of this picture.
We also met the NZ navy. lol. They do their training in Devonport and we met one of the officers. There are two navy ships in the harbor. (the whole fleet, maybe?)

We had lunch at an amazing fish and chip shop owned by a Croatian! Yum. The best!

After strolling around the town, we drove up to the North Head which was the military lookout during WWII where NZ was on the lookout for ships coming into the area. There is whole network of tunnels that you can go through where the military were based. There is an old cannon, and a few smaller ones too.

Then we headed home so we could be there in time for Paige's soccer game, which they won, 1-0. Wow do they ever get muddy playing soccer here!

In the evening B&N met up with some former students of their's who live here.
Today it's Kenzie's day for a date with Bruce and Niki while I'm at work. They're off to Kelly Tarlton's.

That looks like the biggest fig tree ever---any figs?

Sounds like such a nice time. Thank you for sharing this.
