First day in Aus - Tuesday

It's a 3 hour flight from Auckland to Sydney. We arrived on a beautiful Tuesday morning! The view from the plane was spectacular! After getting through bio-security to make sure we weren't smuggling any bugs into the country, and picking up our rental van, we stepped into the fresh, warm, dry beautiful Australian air! I always love that first smell of a new country.

Driving through Sydney to our first accommodations in Katoomba (about 45 minutes from the airport) we were all on the lookout for kangaroos hopping along the highway and koalas sitting in every tree. not. lol. But we were definitely looking! As we entered the Blue Mountains we stopped at Wentworth Falls for lunch and a hike down to the falls. We were so incredibly awed by the view that we came upon. None of us really knew what to expect in Australia. There in front of us was something like the Grand Canyon, but bigger and different and covered in tropical rainforest. Took our breath away! We knew then that we were in for a wonderful 3 days in the Blue Mountains. It just got better! God's creation can't even be comprehended sometimes! For as far as our eye could see there was this huge and I mean huge, crater into the earth with cliffs and waterfalls and forest. And that was just from the one little lookout we were at. The blue haze from which the mountains got their name, comes from the oils on the euculyptus leaves.
We carried on and found our accommodation, a guest home for people in ministry that I had found on the internet. Awesome place. A regular house with a huge addition. We all had our own room and there were 4 bathrooms! There was a wood burning fireplace and heaters in every room, because, yes, it was very cold in the Blue Mountains.
