Yesterday and today have been consumed with the administrative stuff of life!
Yesterday our email system was really acting up. Our internet provider has joined up with yahoo for some reason and now I get every email 3 times! Twice in my outlook express and once in my new yahoo account. Something needs to be done, but I hate, absolutely hate, sitting on the phone trying to sort that kind of thing out, so for now, I will continue to feel like I'm getting lots of email! lol It's better than what was happening, which was that I wasn't getting any of my email....so if I haven't replied to an email you may have sent in the past week, it's probably floating around in cyberspace and I'd love if you'd resend it! :-)
Yesterday I also went over to the girls' school to try to continue to understand the educational implications of our move. I am slowly getting it figured out and coming to grips with what it all means. I think we'll be okay..... The one thing that I think I've found out is that low income families here get super-subsidized post-secondary education.....so that could come in handy (if we can convince the girls to take advantage of a free/cheap university education instead of the $40000+ one that would happen if they went back to Canada....but that's still a ways down the line, so we'll cross that bridge when we come to it). Which leads up to what we've been doing today.....
We've gone on line to begin the very long process of 'applying to apply' to become NZ residents. If we can get residency we can get a monthly family allowance which will really help us out, as well as other things that the government provides. It also means that Kevin can continue on with his Masters at a much cheaper cost! It's all good....but the process is long and tedious! Between Kevin and I, we've been at it for 7 hours today! (and we're not done) and that's just the Expression of Interest on-line form! I guess part of seeing if you're eligible to become a resident is to see how committed you are to filling in the paperwork! Once we send in the form, they decide if we are eligible to now apply to become residents!
Lastly, I got my NZ driver's license today! yay. I went and wrote the test and passed. phew. I knew of a lady in Kelowna who came from England. She went to write her test and failed and they wouldn't let her drive home, so I was a tad worried about that! However, all is good, and now I have an NZ license and have applied to be able to teach the girls to drive. Danae is going for her driving test next week and then she'll be licensed. Paige will take a bit longer as she had an interruption in her learning when she broke her wrist. Kenz will go for her learners soon, after her birthday (which is only a few weeks away! my kids will be 17,17 and 15!!!! they're growing up!!!!)
that's it for our update!
God is good!
