An Ode to Sunny

Today we received news from back home, from the family who adopted our little dog, Sunny, when we moved. Sunny passed away on May 9th. He was 10.5 years old. He was such a fun little dog and even though we already said good-bye when we moved, I am still really sad and strangely it is making me very homesick.

Below is an excerpt from the letter sent to me from Sunny's adopted family:

"I don't know how to tell you this... but I have sad news. :( Our little Sunny passed away on the afternoon of May 9th. We had taken him to the vet a few days before because he had seemed tired and sad (not like his normal perky self). The vet said that Sunny had a heart condition and that he wouldn't be with us long. We talked about what to do (whether to try meds/xrays etc) and then decided that because he was not in pain, we would make him comfy at home and hope that he might get stronger again. Unfortunately he just suddenly passed away. The good thing is that he was not suffering, and that he was very much loved to the end!
When you talk about the power of one, think of Sunny! We all thought he was the best and cutest little dog in Peachland! Sunny brought so much joy and fun into our home, he was always a pleasure to come home to! I thank you for bringing him to us for those reasons and more! I'm sorry that our time with him was short ... but it was sweet!! (except his breath...yuk!)"

Thank you to Lisa and her family for taking Sunny in and loving him!

Hi--whew, a sad post. I have a sweet little dog and I can understand how one might feel when they lose that precious soul.

Special thoughts to you.

tough time for you...don't really know what to say. My husband don't want us to have a dog, not because he don't like them but because he knows that they will pass away one day and he is afraid of the feeling of loss. Rest in peace, Sunny.

Poor little Sunny. As you know my heart is especially connected to animals so a few tears are falling but he had a happy little life right to the end by the sounds of it and had no pain so that is good. It makes me think of Sacho and Homer and Chico and Tuffy. Animals are special little people.
