between hundreds and thousands of years

Does that sound comforting?

I was just searching the net for a mountain that our daughter is going to tomorrow for a photography field trip and came across an interesting site on Auckland's volcanoes. You can go here if you're interested. Wow, there are sure a lot of volcanoes in this area! And the verdict is that "Since the field is not extinct, new volcanic events may occur at any time, though the usual period between events averages between hundreds and thousands of years" ......hmmmm....how long is that????? And here I was worried about tsunamis when we moved here!

Oh well, this map is sure interesting!
It is a map from a German surveyor in the mid 1800's.
We live right near Pigeon Mountain
(or as it's labled on this map, Pigeon Hill)

Nice to know the history of our new place..30 or so years ago, not one building is standing here in Dubai and now? NZ has a rich history and I am deeply interested.
