ANZAC Day

Today was ANZAC Day, which is like Remembrance Day in Canada. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corp. Apparently they fought in the war together.

So today was a day off. This morning Kevin and I went for a walk along the Tamaki River inlet. The above picture is from our side of the inlet where we walked looking across at Mount Wellington.

Then we drove around the inlet and went to the top of Mount Wellington. It was my first time up there. Kevin went when he was here last August. What a view from up there! This picture shows where we were in the morning on the other side of the water! (just about in the right/middle of the pic)

Mount Wellington is another old volcano and it has a huge divet in it from the original explosion. You can walk the ridge where there is a dial thingy that points to all the places of interest that you can see from the top. You can even see both the South Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea where they get to within a couple of kilometers from each other. Very cool. If you look on this map for the narrowest point between water just below the red dot to the right....that's it.
