volcanoes and circuses.... all in an NZ Saturday

On Saturday we took a ferry over to Rangitoto Island. Rangitoto is a 600 year old volcano. You can walk up to the top. The day we went was one of the hottest days here so far! Good choice of days .... :-( Between the sun and the heat radiating off the volcanic rock, it was a very warm trek up the mountain. However, we did make it and the view was definitely spectacular!

We went with Jason and Chelsey, and the Mordaunts, including a very pregnant Sharilyn....who is now my hero! How she climbed that mountain, carrying her 3 year old son, and being 8 1/2 months pregnant is beyond me!

MacKenzie pointing at the mountain top from whence we descended.....

Kevin and Jason checking out the lava rock along the pathway.

A view of downtown Auckland from the top.

The happy gang minus Danae, who just didn't want to take one more step past the crater to reach the summit!

In the evening we went with Jason and Chelsey (in the pic with us) and Kelly & Jenn (not in the pic) to see Cirque de Soleil, Vareki. It was amazing!!!!!!!!
