These two pics were taken from the same spot. One looking right and the other looking left. It was a very unique place where you could see water on both sides of the island at one glance. I don't have a wide angle lense so I couldn't get it all in one pic, but I thought it was pretty cool. Kevin and I have been discovering different places to go walking. The choices are endless!
So the kids bravely made it through their first week of school. MacKenzie took a break from 'trying' to make friends at lunch time, and just went to the library to read. She was getting pretty tired from trying to figure out who to hang out with and how to break into a group. So I suggested to her that she just take a little break and spend some time by herself. She seemed much happier after that! This coming week she has a couple of extracurricular activities lined up which should give her some new opportunities to meet people. On Monday she attends a one hour drama class at the local community centre and then on Tuesday she wants to attend a youth bible study at one of the local big churches.
Paige and Danae, on the other hand, are so incredibly social and outgoing that they have settled in quite well after this first week. They attended a big youth group on Friday night and really enjoyed themselves. Paige was also asked to be in the school production to be an Elvis impersonator. She even has an on-stage solo. Should be quite funny! Both Paige and Danae are in a 2 hour drama class at the same place where MacKenzie goes. They are also planning on attending the Tuesday night bible study.
They are all pretty enthusiastic about the youth groups around here. There are two big churches that have a lot of youth activities and there is also the Young Life program. We have gotten to know the YL leaders, Mike and Jewel. Jewel took P&D driving for a bit yesterday, as she has had her NZ licence for over 2 years.
We are trying to get volunteers once a week to drive with P&D until we can get official permission for Kevin and/or I to be their driving supervisors. Such a crazy rule - having to have had a NZ licence for 2 years....it should just be that you've had a licence for 2 years. I am sure that most immigrants have the same problem.
Today after church we are going to go do some yard work for a lady who has cancer. This past week I went and helped paint Matt and Sharilyn's house before they move in. I have also been helping a young lady in our church look for office work. I really enjoy helping people. It energizes me.....
oh yah, one sad thing that happened this week....my favorite Mickey Mouse watch that I've had since University went through the washing machine! The black strap stained my American Eagle hoodie and the watch is kaput! so sad!!!! Now I'm time-less and my favorite hoodie looks really weird!
God is good! Thanks for your prayers and emails and encouragement!
