We spent Thursday and Friday in Rotorua which is about a 3 hour drive from our place. We had a wonderful time, after we figured out which of the zillions of tourist attractions we most wanted to visit and we could most afford. What a tourist place! wow. and a million things you could do ranging in price from free (not too many of those) to $400 skydiving trips.
So we did a few things.... (you can check out all the pics if you click on the link to the right under 'My Favorites, entitled 'more pics' - for some reason I can't seem to load any more pics on this post today! grrr)
Went up the gondola and down the luge 3 times. Very much fun!
We're photo #SKRT702011002265 (which you can type into the search if it doesn't bring our picture up)
Went for a nice Italian supper....the kids were craving pasta....there's no Boston Pizza here!
Went to the Polynesian Spa for an evening hot tub in the sulfur pools.
Stayed at a public servants accommodation which was generously provided for us by a member of our church.
Took a visit to Te Puia, which was a GeoThermal Valley. We saw geysers, mud pools, steam pits. We also got to see an awesome Maori cultural performance in traditional buildings. We also got to go inside a kiwi bird viewing area where we got to see 2 kiwi birds!
After leaving the village, we stopped at the Agrodome for a picnic lunch near the sheep and then just looked around the Agrodome area. It is a demonstration area for sheep shearing, sheep dogs, etc. It cost a lot to watch the show, so we just looked around the grounds.
We ended our day with the event of all events........you saw it on Amazing Race about 4 years ago.....and now you can see it on the Nichol's blog......ZORBING!!!!!! Paige, Danae and MacKenzie 'zorbed' together and Kevin 'zorbed' by himself. You are put inside this huge plastic water filled ball and sent down a hill side! MacKenzie said, "That was the most fun I have ever had in my entire life!!!" They definitely loved it.
We came back to our house and it really did feel like we were 'coming home'. We are starting to feel more and more settled every day.
Kevin preaches his first sermon here this Sunday, and then the kids attend school on Thursday for an orientation. Friday is their 1 hour orientation into their house groupings, and then on Monday they start in full-time.
