friendships & doughnuts

I have been blessed with some wonderful friends here in Peachland! And today we all hung out together at our house and made doughnuts! It was so much fun. I made up a double batch of Grandma Baergen's spudnut recipe and had it raised and ready when everyone arrived.

There was Brenda and her daughter, Jessie; Judy and her daughter, Janelle; Yvonne and her daughter, Nicola; Stacey and her daughter, Ayla. One of the bizarre coincidences of these friendships is that Brenda, Judy, Yvonne and I all have exactly the same heritage! Both our mothers' and fathers' families are of Mennonite heritage and came from Russia in the early 1900's. We are probably all actually related somewhere back there! When we get together we have such a great time!

After cutting all the doughnuts out, we had a huge flour fight! Noone was left untouched by flour! Poor Janelle even got it in her eye! ouch.

Everyone had their fill of doughnuts! Buttermilk syrup coated doughnuts, sugar & cinnamon doughnuts, icing sugar doughnuts (a little messy, Danae?), and chocolate dipped doughnuts. Everyone went home with a lot of doughnuts to share!

We joke that Yvonne missed the domestic Mennonite gene but the rest of us are working at helping her out with that! And making doughnuts today was great. She did a tremendous job flipping doughnuts in the frying pan!

Jessie and Judy had a 'last doughnut' ceremony!

After doughnut making, we went to the Gasthaus to celebrate another friend, Nola's, birthday. What a wonderful time of fellowship we had. Laughing, crying, just doing life together.

Thanks, God, for the wonderful friends you have blessed me with!

Actually, I just can't find a new one that I like...so I have gone back to the original one!

I also noticed that when you change templates, you lose the links and counter on the side.

Made many many of those spudnuts too with the recipe from a Mennonite lady I used to know way back when we were youth sponsors and she used to have all the kids over for doughnuts. Yummy!
