I know it was a divine appointment, but others may think it's just chance. I think God has fun placing people in each other's paths. It is up to us what we do with those encounters.
My office is connected to Ships Ahoy, a fish and chip restaurant. When a delivery is to be made to the restaurant and they aren't there, the deliveryman gets the key from me and unloads the delivery into the restaurant. The plan has been working smoothly for the past couple of years. On Monday, Linda, the on-call who covers for me, didn't know the system and thought there was an alarm code that she didn't know, so she had the delivery left in our office to be transferred to the restaurant on Tuesday when the restaurant was open. Anyway, today Linda, the restaurant owner, came in to get the food. There were 8 heavy boxes of potatoes and a couple heavy boxes of lard, and some miscellaneous items. She has a sore wrist and it was a lot to carry, so I went out on the street to see if there was anyone I knew who could help. Small town, usually someone around. But, alas, not today! So Linda and I began the arduous task of hauling boxes. A gentleman was walking past and held the door open for us as we struggled with our heavy load. I then enlisted his help with the rest of the boxes! He was very kind and helped us haul the rest of the order into the restaurant.
When thanking him, I asked if he was from Peachland or visiting. As it turns out, he and his wife just moved here from Ontario to start a Presbyterian Church in Summerland. The church draws from in between Penticton and Kelowna, so they decided to live in Peachland. He had been wondering who the other pastors were in the area, so I took him 2 doors down the street and introduced him to Kevin. Pretty cool. He blessed us with his help and we blessed him by connecting him with Kevin and the pastoral group in Peachland. The new pastor for the Peachland United Church just moved in 3 houses away from us, so now we have a couple new pastoral couples to get to know. That's a good thing!
