Things I've Learnt, Played With, Want to Try.....
First off, check out: Initial iPad Setup (links to most of these apps are there, under ULearn13 tab down left side) Thanks to Allanah King for sharing her knowledge and experience. (@Allanahk)
Write About This - use pre-made, or set up your own writing prompts for students complete with pictures, audio and written prompts.
Tellagami - very fun app. Use it to talk about a picture, or create a story. Here's one I made.
Explain Everything - records voice, video, photos, text to present learning. Exports as a movie that can be shared with parents.
Show Me Interactive Whiteboard - draw and record voice, add photos - use to teach or record learning
Puppet Pals - Makes a cool video story that can be exported to YouTube and shared. Here's my quick little attempt. haha. The fun thing is you can use your photos, crop them, and put them in your puppet story.
Pic Collage - lets you manipulate pictures on your iPad to create fun collages. These can even be sent as postcards anywhere in the world! Here's my quick collage.
Blogger - you're on it. :) By using this google platform, you can quickly and easily write and export learning to your class blog from many different apps.
Book Creator - Create books with photos, movies, audio, text. Can be exported to your iBooks and can be emailed to parents. Need a special reader to view all aspects of it. Readium Chrome Extension on Chrome.
iMovie - make amazing movies that can be exported to YouTube or Vimeo
Audioboo or Soundcloud - record audio and add to your blog for children to talk about their learning
Vimeo - like YouTube - works better on iPod, iTouch, iPhone, iPads
InstaWeather Pro - take a photo outside with your iPad and the app adds the weather, date, location. Fun contemporary way to talk about the daily weather with your students! Here's a sample.

Augmented Reality Apps! Wow!
ARDinopark Brings history to life! Looks like this.....
Aurasma - didn't get a chance to figure this one out yet.
colAR mix - created in Christchurch - download pictures to colour, then hold iPad over picture and watch what happens! Must try!!!
Haiku Deck - a fantastic, easy way to create a powerpoint presentation. Type in two sentences and search through commons photos to create your slides. Quick, easy, beautifully presented.
Evernote - note taking app - didn't get time to practise with it, but lots of people were talking about it.
Word Lens - soooo cool. If you see a sign in another language, you hold your iPad up to it with this app and it displays the sign in English!!! How does it do that?!!?!? You have to buy the add ons for the languages you want.
Now onto GOOGLE!!!!
You will definitely want to go to: Getting Good with Google
Thanks again to Allanah King for sharing her knowledge and experience. (@Allanahk)
Chrome is the best browser for working in Google. You can customise your start up page with the Chrome extensions you need/want/use.
Google Apps for Education is the place to start for using Google in the classroom. Then we need to get set up with Teacher Dashboards which cost $4/student/year. Much of we need to record our students' progress can be done through there.
We can also set up a google site for our classrooms from which we can link a class blog, etc. This site is an example of what can be done. It was shared with me by a lovely teacher I met at the session. Thanks @aliciabest26 :) It is my goal to have a class blog fully functional and up and running for 2014. I need to come up with a good blog name that can follow me through the years, and not necessarily each class. I also need a new gmail address so that I can set up the blog independently of my personal blogs on this blogsite that are linked to my personal gmail address. I've been writing a blog on our school's Ultranet site this year, but I'm not 100% happy with the functionality of Ultranet. Ultranet is a work in progress, shall we say. (ps this is my personal opinion, and not my school's :)
Blogging is part of google and is being used by so many teachers and classes to share their learning. I truly think it is the way to go. It's easy, accessible, intuitive, and linked to so many apps. Let's make sharing our students' learning something that is easy for teachers, not something that is an onerous task and that only the computer literate and/or those with extra time can achieve. I liked what Allanah said, that with the Blogger app and the connectivity of it to so many different apps, we can quickly and easily update our blogs on our way to morning tea! Let's do that!
Twitter: A fun way to make writing and sharing our learning real to kids. I've connected with a teacher in another school who wants to try tweeting with our kids about their learning. She has suggested a plan for Week 2, Term 4, so now I need to get on it! It's good to have the accountability and the assistance of someone who is just a little bit further down the track of experience. I will let you know how it goes!
So much to digest, absorb, work through, implement. Step by step. Finding one or two things to use this week and incorporate on a regular basis. Then adding others as we go. Finding things that are of educational value and not just flashy, fun or pretty! Working with my students to prepare them for the future and keep up with the present. Making learning fun, relevant and exciting! Go forth and conquer!!
