Today's road trip was inland from Auckland to a farm just outside of Hamilton. Along the highway were beautiful wildflowers. It was pretty nice!
We went to visit a kiwi fruit farm. Now, apparently you always need to clarify which kind of 'kiwi' you are speaking of, because there is the fruit, the bird and of course, the people. So we went to a farm where they grew the fruit!
This is how they check out the crop..... bending way over and looking at it upside down...it works, check out my crop checking pic!
And of course, there were puppies at the farm! The biggest hit! And many pleas to please take one home! Sorry kids, not gonna happen!
We also went to a dairy farm where the cows were milked on a turntable. One full revolution of the table and the cow was milked. The smells reminded me of Grandpa Baergen's dairy farm, although they had to hand milk each cow and run the milk through an old cream separator. This milk went into a large stainless steel tank to be separated somewhere else. The family looking at the cows in this picture are visiting NZ from India. They return to Bombay in a couple of weeks.
On the way home we stopped for awesome ice cream...the best in all of New Zealand we were told! :-) It was great and it was incredibly affordable! The kids got 4 generous scoop cones for only $3! Not like Sunnyside in Peachland! When Chelsey emails me the pic of us with our humungous cones, I will post it.
Upon arriving home we all realized that we had got a bit too much sun and now have sunburns! We had an awesome day!
